I bought a garage sale gateway gm 5664, that is really a media center PC. I would like to upgrade it to Windows 7 Home Basic 32 bit (Its the retail disc I have and has not been used or activated). I know its usually the other way around upgrading from a 32 bit to a 64 bit system, but I prefer to use a 32 bit version since that's the disc I have, and doubtful I really need the 64 bit and the...

Mod, please move to correct forum if needed. Should I stick with 32 bit or go back to 64 bit operating system? Since both can get root kits, My memory is only 4 GB can be upgraded though. I don't plan to upgrade memory. I found my 16 bit software works better in Lubuntu 64 bit with wine 32 installed. I don't use secure boot.

I had a perfect-running CyberpowerPC-built PC, with a Gigabyte Z77 mobo, one 1TB HDD and 1 60GB SSD using Intel Smart Response to cache, plus an MSI GTX 570. It was fast and perfect. After 2 years, my PC suddenly began displaying intermittent graphics glitches while gaming. I checked my Nvidia drivers and found that they were 2 versions out of date, despite having Windows Update set on...

1 down vote favorite I am going to have to replace my computer as it has reached the end of its working life. It operates under Windows 7. The new computers I am looking at already have Windows 7 installed and have two hard drives. I have been using my existing computer for a number of years and really don't want to go to the bother of reinstalling all the applications and then...

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 & bought the Windows Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Pro which upgrades to Windows 7 Pro. When I rebuild the HD it's a tad laborious to have to install Home Premium, then upgrade to Pro. ISO images of Windows 7 Pro are available for download from Microsoft which allow Windows 7 Pro to be installed as a clean build but the key for the Windows Anytime Upgrade to...

My main computer needed a motherboard RMA so I slapped together another with some old parts. The current OS on it is XP so I am attempting to replace it with my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. When attempting to install after it goes through the black screen with the grey bar loading windows files I do not get any options, such as language select. The screen is just the Windows 7 background and...

Suffered a full HDD crash. Fortunately I had my data all recently backed up on an external drive. So I figured this is a good time to upgrade a little. I got a new 240gb SSD drive. Since the HDD was toast, there is no getting the recovery partition off it. (believe me, I tried) OK, so I figured I'd just download the Win 7 Home ISO and do a fresh install. I know I can still get drivers from...

I'm trying to move my OS to a new SSD but up until now I have failed miserably. I used both AOEMI and Acronis and I get the same result. My SSD will not boot showing the "Bootmgr is missing" black screen. I've read a lot around these forums and the general opinion is that the Bootmgr is located somewhere else. Unfortunately I cannot find a "System Reserved" in Disk Management to include it in...

Sup, This might take some explaining - I have a 32GB SSD as my C:\windows drive and a 1.2TB normal disk with all my other stuff on it. I have not got any programs that allow you to choose the install location installed on the SSD, however programs such as Photoshop, Minecraft & Office 365 will only install to C: I have migrated my Users folder to the other volume which freed up around 4 GB of...

I tried following the directions I found on a thread on this site for writing a new system partition by running startup repair 3 times with other hard drives disconnected but it didn't work. When I try to boot the drive it gives me the option to use grub recovery mode which is odd because i thought I deleted linux. I discovered that my old hdd from my previous installation of windows 7 had the...

I have just finished a pc build with a SSD to be used as the boot/OS drive and a secondary 2 HDD setup in raid 0 for storage. First I started with the SSD only and installed win7, applied all the updates etc. At this point the system has rebooted at least half a dozen times with no issue. Next I set up the 2 HDD in raid 0, initialized it with disk manager and everything is looking good. But...

I'm trying to migrate to Win 7 32-bit from one of my old XP computers. I only use this particular PC in my entertainment system, more or less as a jukebox. I downloaded Easy Transfer for 32-bit and started the process. I have less than 200GB to transfer, but the system is now telling me it will take more than 5 days to complete. I thought for sure that there had to be a problem with my...
