So I have a freshly minted Tier1 who is 6 months into her "new" IT career(never worked in IT previously) who is arguing that taking a new system out of the box and doing an Upgrade from Win 7 Home to Pro is the more expedited and in her words, "less redundant" method to deploy, than to take the time to create a USB installer and build the image from scratch, despite my instructing...

Hello all, I know clean installs of Windows 7 from an upgrade disk has been discussed to death (everywhere), but I can't seem to find anything about what is needed to do an install if you have to reinstall it either after an infection of replacing a drive. Does the OLD OS HAVE TO INTACT (installed first)? Or can you do a legitimate CLEAN install with an upgrade disk as long as you have proof...

I now have three XP drivers and two PCI cards that I would like to use again. My desktop has Windows 7 64bit installed and running. There is also a partition that I have set aside so I can dual-boot another OS. The question is which one should I use, VISTA or XP. I tried to install Windows XP but about 40% of the way through the installation it came to a halt. I tried to find either...

I have a dual boot setup between Ubuntu and Windows. Earlier it was Windows 10 but I didn't like it so downgraded to 7 After doing so erased Ubuntu MBR on accident so I fixed that successfully, but now the boot selection screen shows as it did before when I had Windows 10 showing a Windows 10 selection, which when I select it, it then takes me to the Windows 7 boot selection screen with the...

I reinstalled my sister's Windows 7 OS. Actually, there was a problem and after three reboots I chose "restore previous session"--and it wiped everything clean and reinstalled from scratch. Oh, thank you, I really needed that. So I have a few things set up and wanted to download Firefox. When I click on the stub, I get a message that "you may not have the necessary permissions to use all...

The HD I have has been low level formated. After that I went into Win 7 Disk management to install the Simple Volume in the usual way. I failed to get the boot record installed and do not know if this has to do with Active Partition. The disk is ready for any wipes needed.. How can I start over on this and why is the boot loader (no giving an error) tricky to get installed? Again. I...

Hi, I appreciate the forums very much. I've been doing lots of research trying to fix my Win7 Home Premium x64 on a Toshiba Satellite C660, which suddenly failed to restart. I thought, before I give up and install Linux on it, people here might have some ideas. The laptop was given to me by my son-in-law, who didn't keep any media, and I failed to make a recovery disc or any full backups of the...

Hi all, Big problem and hope someone can tell me if my solution may work. My PC is dead - spilt a big glass of water on it. I did everything to get it back, but its dead. So I need new hardware and thought I would take advantage of the new Ryzen stuff coming it (the...

I wanted to install the os on my SSD, but it wouldn't show up in the windows install. I found out that I had to prep the drive and install drivers before I could use it. so I installed the os on one of my HDDs which wasn't easy either. for some reason I had to convert the disk...
