An elderly relative of mine has Vista 32-bit Home Premium, and with Microsoft support ending shortly I was wondering if the upgrade path from Vista to Win7 is still a possibility, or whether Win10 is the only upgrade available now (I seem to recall reading that people were having issues with their Win7 keys not being activated but it was Youtube so it could be wrong). There are cheap OEM copies...

W7 to W10

I first bought W7 three years ago, probably the last ones Dell had in stock with W7 loaded so, it's a relatively new computer. I fought against the constant badgering me to update to W10 popups until finally they stopped not long back. I wonder if I didn't make a mistake in that W7 will no longer be getting updates from Microsoft in a couple 2-3 years. My Vista machine that I use primarily...

I want to have a Windows/Linux dual boot setup, so I started installing Windows. I have the Windows DVD ISO, but the DVD itself is pretty damaged so I have to use an USB stick. I want my drive to be partitioned in UEFI-GPT,...

Hi all, I'm thinking about adding an SSD drive to my *Medion PC (https://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/388193-can-i-add-hard-drive-pictured-pc-fan-ok.html)* and was wondering about how much capacity I'll need to buy to make the SSD the boot disk. I know that bigger is better but I'm working on a limited budget so cost is a major consideration. Will 128gb cut it or will I need more gb's...

I reinstalled Windows 7 (x64) on my UEFI supported laptop just fine. Because I was using a USB for setup I had to disable Secure Boot according to the how-to here. USB was prepared as an EUFI device. So Windows works perfectly. Until I decided to check the BIOS and see if Secure Boot was on. It was disabled and I forgot. I Enabled it. BOOM. Windows wont boot. Saying it couldn't read some system...

So I'm asking to you: is there any *Home Premium* *Lite* (better if 64 bit) version around and...

I was among Windows 10 testers/pioneers, but several weeks ago, a cascading array of my hardware and software stopped working under Win 10. So I bit the bullet, cracked open a new SSD drive and loaded my old genuine Windows 7 Home 64bit and reinstalled all my favorite software. Everything has been working fine for several weeks and actually everything still is working. But suddenly an...

Well, I have 3 questions before I proceed with new clean Win7 installation 1. Action before Win7 UEFI install "Disable secure boot", but after installation, should user "Enable secure boot" or will this lower security continue and give a vulnerable system ? 2. Is it really a big difference when using Win7, if it was installed with UEFI or Legacy BIOS mode (only 2 partitions) ? 3. Will...

Assume I want to download ALL security patches (NOT full rollups) for Win 7 (32bit or 64bit) NOT through the built in updates service but separately from a web page. Where can I do this? In other words: Which page offer the security patches (beginning with Nov 2016) as independent *.exe files? Keep in mind I don't want to fiddle´out all the KBXXXXXXX numbers. So your web page...

I'm at this stage where I am utterly convinced I have far too many updates on my system. Does anyone get this? When things start going wrong, is it right to suspect that an update has broken my operating system, utilities or applications? If I could uninstall Windows monthly patches to prove myself wrong! What is my likely chances of success? How would I go about this? In the remote past, I...

I'm using an HP elitebook 8770w. The specs are here: INFO Image:...
